Fulltime Senior PHP Web Developer

About Us:
We’re a venture-backed startup in San Francisco building a large-scale and high-volume consumer destination site. Our focus is in the automotive segment, doing some very new, innovative and disruptive things to change the way people connect with their cars. Over the last 10 years, the founding team has successfully built compelling consumer services and had them acquired by companies like Microsoft and Intuit.

Position Details and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly experienced, expert level, Senior PHP Programmer to help design and personally code the first generation of a high-volume consumer destination site for the automotive space. This person will be involved in the complete software development life cycle (SDLC) of projects and will be one of the newest members of a quickly growing web development team. Primary duties include planning, testing and implementing code. The core platform is currently being built, so this senior developer will have ample opportunity to design and craft a very scalable system from the beginning. The ability to write great code quickly and accurately is a requirement. A passion for new web technologies, rapid build and release cycles and the startup environment are a must. Enthusiasm for cars is welcome as well but certainly not required.


Required Skills:
* 4-6 years of PHP programming
* 4-6 years of programming within a LAMP environment
* 5+ years working within a Production Relational Database System (MySQL, Oracle or Postgres)
* Fluency in SQL
* Javascript / AJAX / XML-RPC programming experience
* CSS proficiency
* Strong object-oriented programming skills


Required Experience:
* Ability to create secure, scalable, and efficient applications and develop for use in high-volume environments
* Working knowledge and experience with Subversion code repository
* Experience in integrating 3rd party APIs with local systems
* Knowledge and experience with the Apache web server
* Experience with the Zend IDE and tools a big plus
* Design and creation of relational databases
* Experience with caching technologies such as memcache a plus
* Exposure to frameworks & architectures, code theory, and optimization techniques is a strong plus.
* Internationalization, character encoding experience is a strong plus.
* Knowledge of search engine optimization techniques a plus
