PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Senior Applications Engineer will develop practical numerical analysis methods for measuring selected analytes, typically in living tissue, using Raman spectroscopy. The Senior Applications Engineer will assist in designing experiments to support this work and apply these methods to DIRAmed’s various self-contained instruments and meters.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adapts multivariate methods of monitoring and modeling dynamic systems and applies these methods to analytical instrument calibration and application.
• Develops macros and/or algorithms to extract net analyte signals from spectroscopic or CCD data.
• Utilizes sophisticated analytical software such as MATLAB, PLS Toolbox, and/or other similar programs to develop and implement mathematical processes to assess the multiplicative and/or additive effects from light scattering in spectroscopy and other image analysis techniques.
• Develops and/or adapts powerful analytical tools in a simple to use format for use by other DIRAmed technical staff in analyzing research data and developing DIRAmed’s products
• Applies optimized techniques for the specific computational needs discovered through above work, particularly with respect to developing calibration and correction routines for spectroscopic instruments.
• Manages development projects and assists in the design, planning, set-up, execution, analysis, and reporting of the development and application work.
• Remains current with developments in the field of work and seeks ways to incorporate improved techniques into current development applications.
• Represents DIRAmed in selected user forums.
The above statements are intended to describe the nature and level of work being performed by the person assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of staff members so classified.
FREEDOM TO ACT
Works independently under the general guidance of the Director of Research. The incumbent may have contributory responsibility for staff hires, staff development and staff planning.
DIMENSIONS
This is a technical position that requires the creation of imaginative solutions within the bounds of a structured process that includes accompanying documentation and decision traceability. This position also requires a motivated individual - a person that can be comfortable working independently and as a member of a product development team. The candidate should have a strong interest in participating in the development of medical products. They should have experience applying creative thought to unusual design problems, and to the application of state-of-the-art technology to their solutions.
Qualifications
A. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Masters degree (Ph.D. is a plus) in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with two or more years experience modeling multivariate systems. Additional selection criteria will include experience with spectroscopic techniques (instrumentation, sampling, and data interpretation), experience with chemical process modeling software, experience with chemometrics modeling, experience with MATLAB or other mathematical software, and strong computer skills.
B. COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in team atmosphere
C. OTHER NECESSARY SKILLS
Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
