Alok Verma is a senior broadcast Journalist with a standing of 25 years in the profession. Currently he is engaged in the community media development initiative by being part of the Media4Community Foundation ---a digital non-profit Community Media Organization based in New Delhi. He is working as Managing Editor and Director.
Besides, Mr. Verma is also a Consultant to many television news channels and media training institutes.
Earlier, he worked with the STAR TV’s New Media, Convergence and Internet Division as its Head of Content.
Before joining STAR TV, he worked with India’s first private news broadcasting station Zee News as its Editor, and Executive Producer. During his Editorship, Zee News became the first 24-hour News Channel in 1998. He has produced more than 2000 hours of programming in news and current affairs while working with heading Zee News as Editor News and Programming. He has done Live television by producing successive election and budget shows. He also two hosted two current affairs shows “Agenda 2000” and “Vision beyond 50” on Zee News Channel.
He has also worked as a print journalist for 15 years and during these years he worked with India's best English language newspapers such as the Amrita Bazar Patrika, The Times of India, Newstime and Ananda Bazar Patrika's Businessworld at various levels including that of an Editor.
Mr. Verma has been a prolific writer and while working with various newspapers for long 15 years, he has written innumerable news reports and hundreds of articles and editorials. Even now he writes a fortnightly column on issues of Media, Communication and Development, which is published in 15 national, and Regional Newspapers. He also writes Guest column for an International Media Journal mediachannel.org. and The Tribune, Chandigarh.
Besides, he has been associated with various Indian Universities and Institutes such as Delhi University, Shimla University and Guru Jambeshwar University, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Journalism University and Indian Institute of Mass Communication in the capacity of Visiting Faculty.
Mr. Verma is also a member on the panel of UNDP’s Cross Border Media Initiative.
He has also authored a book on Television News.
