In November 2005, I started an internet store selling men's and women's organic clothing--hemp, bamboo, soy, cotton and wool. The stand-alone website is www.hempclothiers.com. In 2005, gross sales were $750. In 2006, Hemp Clothiers also opened an Ebay store. Gross sales in 2006 were $15,480. Gross sales for 2007, January through July, were $19,731.
The growth has been tremendous because of the emphasis on global warming and the problems with chemically treated fiber crops and clothing, and damage to the environment from run-off. Organic fibers make more durable fabrics and preserve the environment. For example, industrial hemp requires 1/20th the amount of water to grow as does cotton and is relatively bug-free.
