A venture capitalist is someone who makes investments using venture capital. Typically, the money they invest goes into companies with high-growth and high-potential. Oftentimes, the money is not their personal funds, and in situations where they have money invested, it oftentimes is not a majority share of the total investment. In other words, a venture capitalist will often invest the money of others with their approval.
The typical venture capitalist has solid work experience and often comes from investment banking, consulting, or entrepreneurial endeavors. Venture capitalists must be well seasoned in vetting business ideas, and bring significant value to the table. The majority of venture capital firms reside in California, near the bay area. The famous Sand Hill Road is occupied by many a venture capitalist.
